Selfridges Launches Loyalty Program Powered by QR Code and App

Selfridges has launched a new loyalty program powered by a QR code and an app.

The United Kingdom-based luxury department store chain’s new Selfridges Unlocked program gives members early access to product launches, events, news and free shipping, Selfridges said in a Thursday (July 13) press release. It also donates to charity each time the customer shops.

“Selfridges Unlocked has been carefully curated to help customers live brighter, and makes purchases go further, making a meaningful difference to the local community in partnership with Centrepoint,” the company said in the release.

To sign up for Selfridges Unlocked, customers can opt-in to receive a Selfridges Key, a QR code that can be added seamlessly to the wallet app, according to the release.

Customers can also sign up for the Selfridges summer lineup, which grants them access to exclusive offers across the store’s physical and digital touchpoints, including product launches, masterclasses with the biggest names in beauty, Selfridges’ first swap shop, and a kids’ holiday camp, the release said.

The lineup also includes early access to new film releases, supper clubs, curated experiences in partnership with the Manchester International Festival and more, per the release.

“Selfridges Unlocked is inspired by pioneering founder Harry Gordon Selfridge, who in 1909 on the store’s opening day, offered keys to the first customers with the wish that they would feel ‘at home’ in Selfridges,” the company said in the release. “Selfridge famously said, ‘Everyone is welcome,’ and everyone can be a Selfridges Keyholder.”

Selfridges joins many other retailers in offering loyalty programs designed to encourage customers to continue to shop.

For example, pharmacy chain Walgreens announced Monday (July 10) that it is rolling out a weeklong event for members of its myWalgreens program that offers rewards and savings on all items in-store, online and on its app.

Financial app Revolut launched a new in-app feature in the United States July 6 that provides instant cash back rewards. With this new Shops feature, users can search and browse products and services and earn instant cash back on purchases from participating brands and retailers that are listed in the app.
