Rwandan Bank Makes Play For Underbanked

People in Rwanda can now walk to the local retail shop, supermarket, or even the hair salon to open a new bank account, deposit or withdraw money, reported All Africa. Bank of Kigali announced the roll out of its agency banking platform.

The agency banking initiative is part of BK’s plan to expand its financial operations to unbanked and underbanked consumers across Rwanda. The bank believes that if banking services are more pervasive and accessible, financial services will continue to develop.

Aime Bosenibamwe, the Northern Province governor, stated, “”I thank BK for this initiative of agency banking which has been launched today in our province because it will enable the population to easily access finance and I believe that this will also contribute a lot to the government’s vision of making Rwanda a middle-income nation by 2020.”
