Agentic Checkout, announced in a Monday (Oct. 5) news release, is designed to allow both human shoppers and artificial intelligence (AI) agents to find and purchase products within one agent conversation and interface.

“More and more shoppers are trying and embracing agentic commerce … but these tools have largely focused on helping shoppers discover products, forcing people back into a traditional and disconnected online shopping flow to purchase what they found,” the release said.

“Agentic Checkout removes that friction and helps retailers create a single, connected discovery and checkout experience, encouraging shoppers to complete their purchases while they’re most excited and least distracted.”

According to the release, agentic checkout lets shoppers on retail sites and apps discover products, ask questions, get personalized recommendations, and refine their choices before checking out, without “leaving the agent experience.”

This new functionality is available worldwide, with Constructor saying it is the first to offer Stripe-powered checkout directly within an onsite shopping agent. Customers can pay using the Link by Stripe digital wallet or through payment methods.

“The promise of agentic commerce is that a shopper can express what they need and AI can help them every step of the way, making every part of the journey easier, more helpful, and more enjoyable,” Constructor Co-Founder and CEO Eli Finkelshteyn said.

“Delivering on that promise requires best-in-class discovery and then best-in-class checkout. Constructor has spent years focused on improving the discovery experience and helping shoppers find the right products, while Stripe has built world-class payments infrastructure that helps shoppers buy those products easily and securely.”

According to PYMNTS Intelligence, 23% of consumers say they now begin their retail buying research with artificial intelligence. And 59% of AI shoppers say they now research on AI what they used to seek out on Amazon.

“It’s tempting to call that a broken habit and a new one forming. But it’s really not,” PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster wrote in a column last month.

“Consumers have searched in one place and bought in another for more than twenty years. Maybe they used to Google it and then buy it on Amazon. The AI models are a better search box since the prompts can be so much more complex. But swapping search boxes is easy because the consumer risks nothing by trying.”
