Alternative Credit Apps Play Leapfrog In New Provider Ranking

Afterpay

Buy something now. Don’t pay yet. Online. In a store. Almost anyplace they sell stuff these days. Understand? Like, you get it now. You just don’t pay now. Why didn’t we think of that?

Someone did (more do every day, it seems), and so we now have PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Alternative Credit Apps so that we may better contemplate the sector’s frugal grandeur.

This particular (ahem) installment of the alt-credit app rankings is a wild ride, as these things go. Read now and be amazed as we tell the fluctuating fortunes of BNPL brands.

The Top Five

Drum roll please … new at No. 1 is the Aussie powerhouse Afterpay, taking a flying vertical leap three chart positions to snag the top spot away from longtime champ Klarna, now at No. 2. Not to be nudged from its vantage at No. 3 is the Quadpay app, just named a BigCommerce Elite Partner.

Dropping two spots from last month’s update, yet staying firmly in the top five, is the Affirm app at No. 4, with its big push to help in-store retailing recover using BNPL.

Closing out the top 5 is the Sezzle app at No. 5, after making some big alt-credit moves of late.

The Top 10

In the lower reaches of the top 10, chart positions can change hands more often. We see that dynamic at work in this Provider Ranking of Alternative Credit Apps, with some big changeups.

Another high-flying chart-climber for this update is the FuturePay app, which gained three chart positions to land at No. 6. That moves the interest-free Zip Pay app down one spot to No. 7.

Steady chart performer Laybuy likes the view from No. 8, where it has stayed for a ranking or two.

Another reliable presence in the Provider Ranking of Alternative Credit Apps, Japan’s popular Paidy app, drops two chart positions to grab No. 9 this time out, while the Humm app carries its tune for another month at No. 10. And that’s as close to an “alt” ending as PYMNTS rankings get.
