MasterCard Expands Acceptance Areas In Africa

04 March 2014

MasterCard has announced that it has expanded to seven new markets in Africa.

The development raises the number of African markets that accept MasterCard to 48, the company said in a March 4 press release.

MasterCard products and services are now accepted in Chad, Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Rwanda.

“Our investment in Africa, through sharing industry knowledge and best practice, and by providing training for our customer banks, merchants and retailers, means we are creating more opportunities for all stakeholders in the African payments sector and better integrating the continent’s economies with those elsewhere in the world,” Michael Miebach, MasterCard’s president for the Middle East and Africa, said in a statement.
