Zilingo’s $10 Million In Venture Funding

Investors are seeing potential in a business yet to see profits. Zilingo is a marketplace for fashion eTailers in Thailand, Singapore and, soon, Indonesia. The marketplace targets SMEs that are currently selling offline to weekend shoppers and who, the founders and investors consider, have huge potential for online sales.

Although over 50 percent of the fashion market is served by SMEs, none of them have been able to sell online at scale, until now. Other online companies wanted sales or to push their own brands, while Zilingo allows sellers to price their products themselves and Zilingo takes a cut. The company expects to be profitable in the near future and will use the funding to scale through focused marketing.

Here are the numbers:

$10 million |The total amount raised from venture capitalists

$8 million | The amount raised by Zilingo in Series A venture funding

60% | The percentage of the market that is served by SMEs but who are not able to sell online at scale

10–15% | The cut that Zilingo receives from any sale

1–2% | Zilingo’s margins
