Drizly Expands Alcohol Delivery Marketplace To Albany And Buffalo

Technology company Drizly announced Monday (Oct. 2) it had expanded its eCommerce alcohol app to include delivery in Albany and Buffalo. The Drizly marketplace delivers beer, wine and spirits purchased through local alcohol retailers to the homes of legal-aged consumers.

“We are excited to break into these new markets,” said Justin Robinson, senior vice president of new business and co-founder of Drizly, in a recent press release published by PRNewswire. “Especially in Albany, since Drizly is the first to bring alcohol eCommerce to the area.”

The app also features cocktail recipes, mixology tips, alcoholic beverage trends and advice from Drizly bloggers, among other elements. Customers have the option to have items reserved and set aside for in-store pickup. The expanded service in Albany will be stocked by items from Madison Wine & Spirits, and Buffalo customers will receive items from Caputi Wine and Liquors, Elma Wine & Liquor and Gates Circle Wine & Liquor. Partnering retails are given access to Drizly’s proprietary ID verification technology to “confirm that customers are of legal drinking age,” the release said.

“We look forward to working with Buffalo and Albany retailers as they discover the wealth of data, inventory management tools and customer services benefits that Drizly offers them,” Robinson said in the news release.

In a recent interview with PYMNTS, Bill Simon, former chief executive officer of Walmart’s U.S. operations and new Drizly board of directors member, explained Drizly has managed to do something that no other player in the industry has achieved: find a way to make alcohol delivery work at scale.

“The more we can provide the customer what they want, the more what we are doing is all for the good,” said Simon. “The winners in retail will be the ones who get their stores enabled to help the consumer pretty much wherever they are.”
