Banking Veteran Carol Grunberg To Lead Innovation, Strategic Partnerships For Citi’s TTS Division

Citigroup has hired Carol Grunberg as head of strategic partnerships and innovation for Citi’s treasury and trade solutions (TTS) division in its Institutional Clients Group. Up to now, Grunberg has been vice president of money management experience at Northwestern Mutual.

Citi’s TTS division offers cash management and trade services to multinational corporations, financial institutions (FIs) and public sector organizations around the world.

In an emailed press release, Shahmir Khaliq, Citi’s global head for TTS, said the division “is revolutionizing” its strategies to “continue to meet our clients’ needs (and enable) both Citi and our clients to thrive in a digital world.” He added that achieving this goal entails bringing in “talent with different experiences and perspectives.”

The release said that at Northwestern Mutual, Grunberg was “responsible for the transformation of the money movement and payments experience.” She had previously served as the bank’s general manager of money movement and innovation and vice president of business development. Her experience included the creation of new products and the management of growth and strategic partnerships. She worked with such companies as Ant Group, the FinTech arm of Alibaba Group.

The release said that Grunberg’s roles have involved technology and financial services in the U.S., China, Southeast Asia and India. She also serves on the board of QRails and the American Red Cross of Wisconsin and as a venture partner of KittyHawk Ventures.

In her new role, Grunberg will be responsible for innovation, strategy, goals and plans for Citi’s TTS. She will be tasked with identifying and moving forward with opportunities to collaborate with and commercialize startups and FinTechs. She will also lead TTS’ Innovation Labs and Innovation Catalysts globally, delivering key projects and identifying significant trends and emerging technologies to build new business models and improve capabilities and solutions.
