Sainsbury’s “Mobile Scan & Go” Shopping Experience

Next time you visit Sainsbury’s for your weekly shop at Tadley, Clerkenwell or Bethnal green you might be able to scan and pay for your purchases through your phone. The supermarket chain is trialing a new mobile shopping app at three of its London locations which allows customers to scan products’ barcodes with their smartphones. Customers can then pay for their purchases without unloading their cart, simply by scanning the “Check Out” QR code and pay using cash or card.

To use Mobile Scan&Go all customers need to do is download the application on their smartphones and register using their Nectar Card – the supermarket’s loyalty card. When they visit their local shop, they need to “check in” by scanning a QR code at the front of the shop.

Right now the service is only available to selected customers invited by Sainsbury’s or by those part of the Nectar loyalty card scheme who decide to sign up for the experiment, here.
