As noted in the release announcing the partnership, by adopting Android Pay, the bank’s customers can use their Android phones to conduct transactions at any point of sale where contactless payments are accepted. The purchases can also be made by using supported apps geared toward mobile devices. The Android Pay function, as might be expected, works across the same functionality as has been seen elsewhere, with the phone unlocking, being placed near a contactless terminal and then the transaction completes.

In a statement that accompanied the release, Jason M. Rudman, executive vice president and KeyBank’s head of consumer payments and digital banking, said: “We know our clients value the ease of mobile payments, as well as the ability to choose the mobile payment device that is the best fit for their purposes. We are very pleased to be able to expand our clients’ ability to use their mobile device to make purchases when, where and how they choose.”

KeyBank now works, of course, with Android Pay but also Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
