Austrian Companies Unite For Mobile Wallet Standard

Various Austrian companies have teamed up to create “Mobile Wallet Initiative Austria”, a new organization that hopes to spread an open nationwide standard for NFC wallets, reported NFC World. The group of firms includes Austria Card, Card Complete, Drei, Erste Bank und Sparkassen, First Data Austria, MasterCard, Nexperts, PayLife Bank, T-Mobile Austria and Visa.

    The group revealed that the mobile wallet solution will enable Austrian consumers to make contactless payments via mobile phones. Additionally, users will be able to sign up for loyalty card programs, vouchers and digital coupons and use them at checkout terminals.

    At present, the companies are testing the solution and announced there will be a nationwide pilot sometime in autumn of this year. A commercial launch is expected by 2014.
