Bank of England To Introduce Plastic Banknotes

A polymer five-pound banknote featuring the likeness of Winston Churchill will be the first in the multi-year rollout. According to Finextra, a 10-note featuring Jane Austen will enter circulation in 2017.

“Ensuring trust and confidence in money is at the heart of what central banks do. Polymer notes are the next step in the evolution of banknote design to meet that objective,” Bank of England governor Mark Carney said in a statement.
