The companies’ Pix 4x solution allows consumers to pay in four biweekly installments, including the first payment that is made at checkout, they said in a Tuesday (July 28) press release.

Because it allows installment purchasing without a credit card, Pix 4x makes this option available to the 60 million consumers in Brazil who don’t have a credit card, as well as additional consumers who have a low credit limit, according to the release.

Pix 4x is powered by Pagaleve’s proprietary risk analysis engine, which is built with machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms and conducts instant credit assessments based on more than 100 data points in under three seconds, the release said.

The partnership with Ebanx connects Pagaleve’s credit intelligence to more than 500 merchants across online retail, gaming, social media and online education verticals, per the release.

Ebanx Director of Product Sebastian Fantini said in the release: “By integrating Pagaleve’s risk engine with our global merchant network and Pix’s ubiquity, we’re creating something the Brazilian market has never had: a truly open BNPL [buy now, pay later] platform accessible to any customer, anywhere in the country, that allows them to participate in the global digital economy.”

Pagaleve Chief Commercial Officer Eduardo Zucareli said in the release that the model Pagaleve and Ebanx built “breaks down traditional barriers” and opens the door to “consumers without credit cards and those with restrictive credit card limits.”

The PYMNTS Intelligence report “Digital Developments: Charting Digital Payment Growth in Latin America” found that government initiatives like Pix are making instant payments table stakes in Latin America. The report also found that the region has become a hot spot for innovation, with BNPL rapidly gaining traction.

Another PYMNTS Intelligence report, “2026 Global Digital Shopping Index: Merchant Edition,” found that across Brazil, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, 44% of merchants reported increased use of BNPL among their customers.

The report also found that BNPL is an in-demand feature that is often found missing, as only 51% of merchants make that option available.
