Facebook Adds Mobile Portal Video Calling Device

Facebook is debuting new aspects of its Portal video-calling software, including a 10-inch portable device, Portal Go, and a more advanced version called Portal+, a company blog says.

The blog says Portal Go will take aspects of the Portal Smart Camera video calling and bring them to a new more portable version, allowing conversations to move from room to room.

There will be an integrated handle and long-lasting battery to boost portability.

Portal Go also comes with a 12MP camera that has an ultra-wide field of view, making it suitable for “immersive” video calls, and it will have a portable speaker feature for room-filling sound for music listening.

Meanwhile, Portal+ also comes with the ultra-wide view and the smart camera, and high-fidelity sound as well.

The blog says Portal can work as a good tool for the new mode of working from home or hybrid work, as it can be used as a screen for work calls while the regular computer becomes a way to take notes, look at a presentation or multitask.

Facebook also notes that Portal can be used easily for more recreational tasks.

In addition, the social media giant is adding support for Microsoft Teams for all Portal touch-based devices, including the newly announced devices listed above.

Facebook is also rolling out Portal for Business, which is designed for small-to-midsize businesses to utilize the Portal video calling and collaboration tools to easily deploy and manage Portal devices, allowing the SMBs to create and manage Facebook work accounts for their teams.

Last week, Facebook also rolled out new social media tools with the goal of becoming more of a destination for online shopping, giving users a more personalized experience as they do so.

One example: businesses will be able to put a button on their Instagram profiles letting users contact them through WhatsApp.
