San Francisco-based mobile payment system Square has been confirmed as one of the top contenders in the sale of Braintree, the mobile processing company recently purchased by eBay, ReadWrite reported on September 26.
The media outlet noted that Square CEO Jack Dorsey and CFO Sarah Friar both met with Braintree CEO Bill Ready prior to the deal. The media outlet indicates that the move would have helped Square move beyond serving micromerchants to gain a stronger footing in the market.
