Oakland Rolls Out Combination Prepaid, ID Cards

The city of Oakland, California is preparing to launch a municipal identification card that can also serve as prepaid card, reports Inside Bay Area.

    The cards will cost $15, and those using the prepaid features will be charged $2.99 a month, a $1.50 ATM fee, a $0.75 cent fee on purchases and a $2.95 fee to load money onto the card. The first cards are expected to roll out around March 15.

    Other California cities such as Richmond and Los Angeles are considering implementing similar programs.
