Artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) beauty tech company Perfect Corp. has joined forces with U.K. cosmetics brand Barry M on the brand’s first virtual try-on online shopping experience, powered by Perfect Corp.’s YouCam for Web technology.

YouCam for Web gives beauty brands the ability to provide customers with an interactive and personalized virtual try-on tool using AI and AR through their smartphone or personal computer. Barry M’s virtual try-on experience is available now for U.K. customers exclusively at BarryM.com, where customers can try on 180 SKUs across Barry M’s collection of shades and categories, including eyeshadow, eyeliner, Lip Paint, bronzer and contour.

Perfect Corp.’s virtual try-on solution means Barry M customers can access “a hyper-realistic virtual beauty experience” at home or in the store by using QR codes, according to the joint announcement.

“Advanced technology is fast becoming a crucial element of any beauty brand’s digital transformation strategy,” said Perfect Corp. founder and CEO Alice Chang. “Our AI and AR solutions are a key differentiator that sets brands apart by enhancing the customer experience through our sophisticated and personalized Virtual Try-On solution.”

Barry M CEO Dean Mero, son of founder Barry Mero, said the company is “constantly looking for new ways to connect and engage with our customers. As we mark our 40th anniversary in 2022, it’s important to us to ensure our business continues to evolve and is fit for the rapid changes and consumer expectations in the beauty industry.”

He added that by introducing virtual try-on technology, “we’ll not only be at the cutting edge of technology, but our customers will be able to experiment with our products in a brand-new immersive way, which is realistic, safe and environmentally friendly, too.”
