Amex Adds Cash Back Rewards, Other Benefits to Blue Cash Everyday Card

American Express has debuted a redesigned Blue Cash Everyday Card, adding new online shopping rewards and credits for streaming and cooking at home, among other benefits, according to a company press release Thursday (July 14).

The updated, no-annual-fee Blue Cash Everyday card offers 3% cash back on United States online retail purchases, at supermarkets and at gas stations on up to $18,000 per year ($6,000 per year in purchases in each category) with 1% back on all other purchases, the release stated.

The card also offers new monthly statement credits of up to $15 back on online purchases at pre-packaged meal delivery/prep service Home Chef and $7 back after card members spend $13.99 or more each month on an eligible Disney Bundle subscription, according to the release.

Blue Cash Everyday card members also get early and exclusive access to tickets for concerts, theater, sports events and more through American Express Experiences, and purchase protection is available on eligible purchases made online or in-store that are lost or stolen within 90 days, the release stated.

Last month, Chris Mangone, vice president of payment partnerships at American Express, told PYMNTS that mobile centricity is the code online merchants must crack to get more mobile shoppers converting at a time when about half of them will abandon their carts at the slightest sign of friction.

Mangone added that payment methods today need to include digital wallets and features for card storage, noting that American Express studies show that 55% of consumers will abandon their carts if they have to re-enter their payment or shipping information.

Post-checkout, “it’s equally important to send order confirmations and delivery status updates,” he said. “This really creates an experience that gets customers excited and helps build their trust before the product even arrives.”
