Western Union Brings Money Transfer to Afghanistan

    Roshan currently provides its Afghan customers with mobile money services through M-Paisa, a Vodafone offering. The partnership with Western Union will add global money transferring capabilities to Roshan’s current service offering, a release explains. Currently, customers can use M-Paisa to receive theirsalaries, pay bills, receive and repay microfinance loans, make limited transfers and purchase airtime directly from their mobile phones.

    Karim Khoja, chief executive officer at Roshan, said the two companies together are ”making financial inclusion a reality for the almost 97 percent of Afghans who do not have access to traditional financial services.”

    Western Union’s Mobile Money Transfer service is also available in Bangladesh, Canada, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Tanzania and the U.S.
