Sneakerheads — the segment of the consumer population that dedicates a significant amount of their discretionary income to the collection of sneakers — have been big news and big business this year, especially for those selling shoes online.
And in light of that, it’s not much of a surprise that Skechers is releasing a new mobile app that is designed to make it both easier to buy shoes but also for those shoe enthusiasts to connect their physical and digital footwear shopping experiences.
Released for both Apple and Android devices, the Skecher app comes loaded ready to rock Apple Pay and Android Pay to make it easier for shoppers to buy directly through the app.
“The Skechers mobile app was the natural next step to allow consumers to have a more convenient, informed, streamlined and quick shopping experience,” Skechers President Michael Greenberg said. “With this, we’re giving consumers a virtual retail store in their pocket.”
To help consumers to more easily connect to one of its 500+ retail locations, the app also comes with a tool that lets consumers scan a bar code on a shoebox in a store to find that shoe in a different store or online — helpful if the store a customer is in doesn’t happen to have their size.
Greenberg further noted that Skechers has replatformed its website in the last year to build in more responsive design, so customers will find it easier to browse and hopefully ultimately buy.
Skechers’ online sales were flat last year by most estimates, but those figures are complicated since Skechers does not officially break out eCommerce sales from regular retail sales in a store.
