EMVCo, the body that maintains specifications for chip-based payment cards, announced a new member on Monday, China UnionPay.
“UnionPay’s addition as an equity member of EMVCo further reinforces the growth of the EMV standard globally,” Joe Cunningham, the organization’s executive committee chair, told the news source.

Cunningham went on to say that the move would help it toward its goal of creating consistent and secure infrastructure that supports “contact, contactless and mobile chip-based payments.”
