Western Union Expands China Presence

Colorado-based mobile payment services provider Western Union has announced plans to expand its operations into China through a new agreement with China UnionPay’s ChinaPay, a press release revealed on September 11.

    The move will bring international direct-to-bank remittances to China from 23 countries, and enable Western Union to reach more than 95 percent of all bank accounts in China.

    “Western Union, China UnionPay and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China share a common vision: moving money from different parts of the world, giving customers choice and convenience, and helping them grow and achieve their potential,” Hikmet Ersek, the company’s president and CEO, said in a September 11 statement.
