Vodafone Germany Hacks Over 2 Million-Customer Details

Vodafone’s Germany server has been hacked and allowed fraudsters to steal personal data—such as bank account details—from over two million customers, reported Finextra. Vodafone reported in a statement that the hackers were able to retrieve bank account numbers and sort codes, in addition to customer names, addresses, birthdays and much more. The telecom did state that credit card numbers and customer PINs were not taken however.

The company stated that the hacking was done through someone with inside knowledge and “high criminal energy.” Vodafone customers are asked to remain cautious and alert about possible phishing e-mails that aim to access more information that could be coupled with the stolen data. The German authorities have been contacted and Vodafone reported that it is writing to all of the customers who have been compromised.
