Citi continues to invest resources in the growth of its Flu Care card, most recently through a partnership with Maxim Health.
The Citi Flu Care card launched in November 2010, with acceptance at more than 17,000 pharmacies and clinics, including CVS/pharmacy, Rite Aid, and Target stores. Citi sold the card to employers as a way to reduce health care costs, since vaccinations could be dispensed through easily accessible walk-in pharmacies rather than by a physician.
The product is essentially a prepaid card, and is considered part of Citi’s Prepaid Services division. But Citi uses payment technology to restrict the use of the card only to buying the flu vaccine. Citi also says the card is the first of its kind that does not require prefunding.
Last week, Citi grew the distribution of the Flu Care card through a new partnership with Maxim Health Systems. Maxim serves consumers in 44 states, and distributes millions of vaccines annually.
Today, more than 25,000 clinics and pharmacies accept the card, up more than 50 percent from launch.
