The new services bring together identity, intent, behavioral and fraud insights to help financial institutions and merchants make smarter authorization decisions, reduce unnecessary friction and provide more seamless experiences for consumers, according to the release.

Together, they form the intelligence layer of Mastercard’s Agent Pay Trust Framework, the release said.

The new services include a probability score that indicates the likelihood that a transaction was initiated by an AI agent. They also include new agentic trust and intelligence signals that answer questions about whether the activity is unusual and whether it requires additional review, per the release.

“AI agents will make commerce more intuitive, efficient and personal — but only if people and businesses can trust the systems acting on their behalf,” Ann Johnson, executive vice president, security solutions at Mastercard, said in the release. “By adding new agentic intelligence and risk insights to each transaction, we are giving people the confidence to say ‘yes,’ however they choose to pay.”

Mastercard launched Agent Pay in April 2025, saying that this agentic AI-driven payments program will help unlock agentic commerce for consumers and businesses.

Agent Pay provides an early example of how Mastercard is approaching agentic commerce, Mastercard U.S. Co-President Chiro Aikat told PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster in an interview posted Sept. 17.

Aikat said AI agents can take information about the customer’s needs, identify suitable products, find where they are sold and, depending on the merchant’s setup, move the consumer into the merchant’s digital experience to complete the purchase using a card on file.

Mastercard has also developed agentic tokens and standards intended to support agent-initiated transactions, and the company is working with merchants around those standards while keeping the consumer in control of the decision, Aikat said.

The PYMNTS Intelligence report “Global Digital Shopping Index: The AI-Powered Shopper Has Arrived“ found that 56% of consumers will let AI shopping agents compare products and that 35% will let the agents access saved payments payment methods.
