Telemedicine visits may be off from feverish heights, but the prescription drug space is burning up as heavyweights from Amazon to Walmart announce bold moves into medicaments.

That’s why PYMNTS ongoing Provider Ranking of Prescription Apps records the ups and downs of algorithms seeking deals on the statins, steroids and various “fix me” RX remedies.

We’ve never needed it more, what with lingering pandemic willies and actual health conditions meeting an inflationary recovery at the pharmacist’s counter. We can do better, as this assortment of remarkable price-tracking and deal-hunting Rx apps proves yet again.

The Top 5

We’ve got nothing to say about the Top 5 that you didn’t see last month, except for that one huge change that we’ll get to in a moment. First, let’s examine who hasn’t budged.

At No. 1 it was and still is GoodRX, with revenues rising nicely in Q1.

Still solo at No. 2 is SingleCare – Rx Coupons which claims to “negotiate up to 80 percent off prescription prices.” Impressive.

No. 3 belongs to RxSaver Prescription Discounts for another cycle. This app seems to be edging closer in the rankings to its new corporate parent GoodRX, which is itself owned by Vericast.

Look alive, No. 5, because we’ve got a new name. Managing its way to the rarified air at the top of the charts is the Publix Pharmacy app, possibly demonstrating the current mass migration to Florida, where the chain hails from. Welcome to the Top 5. Try the pâté (yes, it’s store-bought).

The Top 10

Dropping one spot to No. 6 this go around is OptumRx which has been on somewhat of a run.

Holding steady at No. 7 it’s Express Scripts. The same can be said of popular RxLocal keeping its seat warm at No. 8 for another pass at the Provider Ranking of Prescription Apps.

There’s another changeup at No. 9 as the KrogerRxSC app reenters this ranking after a brief absence. Prescriptions drugs and groceries, it would appear, are a winning combination.

Falling one chart position from last cycle but staying inside the Top 10 winner’s circle for another month is the Clever Rx app, living up to its name by cleverly making the cut.

That’s a wrap for this heavy edition of the Rx app rankings. Anyone got an aspirin?
