Increased Cash Usage in U.K.

The number of purchases paid for in cash in the U.K. rose 5.7 percent in 2011, according to data from the British Retail Consortium. Card transactions fell by 10.53 percent.

    U.K. consumers used cash for 58 percent of their purchases, representing 32 percent of total spending. Debit cards are the next most popular payment option, representing 29 percent of transactions by volume and 46 percent by value, Finextra says.
