Smartphones Use Passes The Billion Mark

It’s reporting season and Strategy Analytics has announced a milestone for smartphone usage: that is 1,038 billion smartphones in use in Q3 2012. The one billion mark is to blame on lower device prices and an increase in the number of smartphone manufacturers. Right now, Samsung is leading in the number of smartphones sold quarterly and is closely followed by Apple, and then Nokia.

Right now smartphone penetration is especially high in Middle Eastern countries and in Europe, but there is still a lot of potential in those places as well as in growing markets such as China (where smartphone penetration is only 33%), India and Brazil (14%).
