Santander mWallet Works with Both Visa and MasterCard

The Santander Group says it has developed mobile wallet software that can facilitate NFC payments for both Visa and MasterCard accounts. The company claims its new product is the first of its kind.

    Banco Santander, the company’s banking subsidiary, will soon begin testing the software through a pilot program in Madrid using Blackberry phones, according to NFC World. Santander says the software will work with both credit and debit accounts on either the Visa or MasterCard network.

    Orange, the Paris-based mobile network operator, was a key partner in the development of the new software, Santander says. Other development partners included Oberthur Technologies, Redsys, and Ingenico, as well as RIM, Visa and MasterCard.
