@levie: Replacing Andrew Mason doesn’t magically make consumers want coupons. He’s in the best position to evolve the vision, not a hired CEO.
Apparently Groupon’s board agreed with Mr. Levie, as they decided that Andrew Mason will retain his role as CEO – for the time being. We covered some of Mason’s more interesting quotes form his interview with Business Insider on Thursday, and praised Mason for acknowledging his faults while staying firm in his convictions. We’re sure he appreciates the fellow CEO love from Levie here.

We thank the CEO of LevelUp for his kind words, though we’re sure Karen Webster was more giving an honest opinion than trying to tear anyone down. Still, no piece on our site generated as much buzz this week as did Webster’s take on MCX, and why, in her estimation, it solves a problem that doesn’t exist. Two humblebrag tweets in a row? Two humblebrag tweets in a row. We had Ken Paull, CEO of ROAM and Jason Richelson, CEO of ShopKeep on for a great podcast this week. Topics discussed included the intersection of the cloud and mobile POS, the growing influence of tablets on the market and why customer service still matters. That being said, we suspect a large portion of the fanfare over this article comes from the pun in the title.
@JonahLupton: Investors have put $800 + million into @LivingSocial with no exit in sight. This might be the most disastrous VC backed company ever.
“Most disastrous” may be a stretch, but perhaps not by much. In a further sign of the decline of daily deals, LivingSocial laid off 400 of its employees yesterday, totaling around 9 percent of its workforce. Spokesman Andrew Weinstein said the goal of the cuts is to focus more on mobile and marketing, but if the basic business model remains the same, it’s tough to be optimistic about the Amazon-backed company’s future.
@H9RBSjs: Hey, did you guys hear? Apple filed a patent for “Living on planet Earth”. Now we all have to leave.
Samsung can likely sympathize with this tweet, which we’re guessing comes in response to the news that Apple’s been awarded yet another patent – this time for its EasyPay wireless payments tech. Of course, we’re sure Apple will handle any patent disputes in a responsible, adult manner, should they arise. After all, look how well their Samsung apology went over!
