Visa, PayPal Go Back and Forth on Security

A day after being accused of having “real issues” with its security, PayPal responded directly to comments levied by Visa’s head of product at a Goldman Sachs technology conference.

    “With PayPal, your financial information can’t be lost or stolen from your wallet, your card or on your phone,” wrote Anuj Nayar, a PayPal spokesperson, in an email to the Wall Street Journal last week. “It’s safer in the PayPal digital cloud than in your pocket.”

    A day prior, Visa executive Jim McCarthy was hardly subtle in his assessment of PayPal’s risk solutions. “I think there’s real issues around security,” he said.

    PayPal began allowing users to pay for purchases directly from their PayPal accounts using a mobile phone number and a PIN in January. The pilot program has been rolled out to 51 Home Depot stores so far, the Journal writes.
