Facebook will be added to the S&P 500 index at the close of trading on December 20, Reuters reported on December 12.
Standard and Poor’s made the announcement on December 11. According to Reuters, one of the criteria for joining the exchange was the fact that Facebook has enjoyed four profitable quarters in a row.
Facebook shares, which have risen since its troubled IPO earlier this year, climbed 4.3 percent on the news.
