Osama Bedier, the head of Google’s Google Wallet platform, has left the company, according to a VentureBeat report.
“We can confirm that Osama Bedier has decided to leave Google this year to pursue other opportunities,” spokesman Nate Tyler told VentureBeat. “He’s achieved a lot during his time here, and we wish him all the best in his next endeavor. Payments are a big part of what people do every day, and we’re committed to making them easier for everyone.”
Bedier joined Google in 2011 after working at PayPal: a move that sparked a lawsuit between the two payments giants and involved another PayPal-turned-Google exec, Stephanie Tilenius. Tilenius left Google Wallet last summer for a role at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins.
Two years after its introduction, Google Wallet has yet to gain much traction in the market. Sprint is the only major telco player who has fully supported the NFC-based platform.
