Online payments giant PayPal is reportedly close to finalizing its purchase of Braintree Payments Solutions, The Wall Street Journal reported on September 22.
The media outlet indicated that the sale would enhance PayPal’s mobile presence, and give the eBay-owned company access to transaction fee revenue from high-profile clients such as Airbnb, OpenTable and Uber.
Neither eBay or Braintree responded to requests for comment, according to the Journal. The report also warned that “people familiar with the discussions cautioned that talks could break down.” For more on how the move fits into PayPal’s strategy, read the full report here.
