UK City Bans Payday Loan Adverts

According to The Telegraph, Plymouth City Council has banned payday loan businesses from placing adverts on bus shelters and billboards. Plymouth is the first city in the UK to take action on the recent measure that aims to prevent the country’s debt from increasing.

    “Plymouth’s advice agencies are taking calls daily from people who are running up huge debts that are causing stress and hardship to them and their families. We need to protect people and make it difficult for payday loan companies to operate in our city but we do recognize times are hard,” stated Chris Penberthy, community development council cabinet member.
