UK-based Judo Payments is a startup that launched in July 2012 and recently told TechCrunch it launched with the help of a $5 million seed round. The funding came from a New York based private investor that has backed other UK startups.

    Unlike its European competitors, Judo specializes in mobile payments and aims to help developers install mobile optimized card payments into mobile applications.

    Since its launch, Judo has serviced about 2,500 merchants through its platform, which is based on subscription. Judo is advertising a new competition to increase customer awareness, and is offering 1 million in free card processing services divided between 10 mobile-first UK users. Additionally, Judo has selected Barpass, Theatre Ninjas, and Duchy Software to get £100,000 in free credit and debit card processing through the company.
