Brazil Legally Categorizes Mobile Payments

In fall 2013, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff signed into law legislation meant to clarify expectations from different mobile payments players for that emerging market. Non-mandatory interoperability between mobile network operators, bankcard issuers, acquirers and the card brands was the focus of the law. Brazil currently has 1.4 million contactless terminals and 15 NFC-enabled smartphones.
