Denver Dealer Won’t Take Dollars In 2017

Amagi Metals, an online precious metals and coin dealer in Denver, said last week that it will refuse to accept U.S. currency as payment at the end of 2016, the Denver Business Journal reported.

    Instead, the dealer will require customers to use cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Amagi has been accepting Bitcoin since 2012, and cryptocurrencies comprise roughly 30 to 40 percent of its business, according to the Wall Street Journal.

    After 2016, Amagi Metals customers will have to go through an exchange to convert their dollars into Bitcoins. The company said it will turn away customers who insist on paying with dollars directly.

    Mainstream businesses ranging from Expedia to Dell Computer have begun to accept cryptocurrencies, but none of them have said they’ll stop accepting dollars.
