Google Launches My Business

Google wants to bring the Google method to business directories, now with the launch of MyBusiness.  The new MyBusiness platform is designed to allow corporate users to manage the totality of their Google identity – from search results, to placement on the company’s map, to Google+.  The service is available both on the web and in mobile app form.  Businesses using the Place for Business Google offering or whose main presence in on G+ will be transitioned over to the service.

“The Internet is connecting more businesses with their people every day. However, our users tell us that finding these loyal customers can be complex and time-consuming. We believe it shouldn’t be,” Google posted in a blog entry.

The new service allows Google to help merchants and themselves.  Merchants have access to Google AdWords, among other features through MyBusiness, which will in turn help them build better and more viable products for customers.

Concurrently, Google can improve its business directory, which is key since the company’s main identity is as a search company (the search company) and  a directory of accurate and easily referenced business data should be particularly helpful for mobile and contextual search. Developing enhanced mobile search is particularly important for Google, as the trend tends to be away from desktop search, a trend that is putting downward pressure on Google’s revenue.
