Groupon Creates Most Distributed Mobile Coupon

Groupon announced this week that its Freebies coupon is now available for iOS devices, which makes it the nation’s most widely distributed mobile coupon destination.

Freebies VP and GM Sean Smyth said in a Groupon statement that the move lets his company give shoppers more ways to save money on the go without having to clip any coupons.

“And, with more than 80 million downloads globally, we’re giving brands an enormous platform to drive customers to their mobile app, online store or physical location,” Smyth said.

According to the release, Freebies now includes more than 30,000 digital coupons, promotion codes, sales, giveaways and samples redeemable online or in-store via mobile devices. The coupons are available from more than 6,000 popular national brands and can be used in more than 245,000 physical locations.

This move is a major boost for Groupon, which has been working hard to establish itself as an e-commerce powerhouse. Just last month, Groupon launched Gnome, a bulk shipping program that brings it into direct competition with Amazon. Additionally, Gnome features an “all-in-one” cash register that can accept traditional payments and Groupon vouchers, accounting software and integrated customer relationship management software.
