Stripe Adds One-Click Mobile and Web Checkout

06 March 2014

Stripe has rolled out a new checkout system for mobile and online transactions that allows users to make one-click payments for the first time on the payments platform.

Embeddable on both computers and a variety of mobile devices, the new functionality will allow customers to complete payments using Stripe without navigating away from the merchant’s website. After initially imputing credit card information into the app, users will accounts will be associated with an SMS code that they can use to make payments across a variety of devices and sites.

Integrated checkout experiences have recently been a subject of interest in the payments ecosystem, with both PayPal and Apple reportedly pursuing their own versions.

Stripe finds itself with some interesting allies, including Pete Thiel, one of the co-founders of PayPal, Stripe’s main competitor. Thiel’s Founders Fund recently poured more money into Stripe, and he spoke to TechCrunch in late January about Stripe’s bright future.

“Stripe is rethinking the entire payments system as a whole stack offering to companies. This is not just processing, and they are looking to build up entire suite of services.”
