Moltin, which pitches itself as a comprehensive eCommerce API for developers, is the result of an idea that came the same way many companies are created: to solve a problem that one of the founders was constantly encountering. According to TechCrunch, Moltin’s founders were working in England when they discovered how expensive and cumbersome it was to add eCommerce capabilities to an app.

So they decided to simplify the process, and gave other developers an easier way to add eCommerce functionality into any app. Just put in some code, the Moltin team decided, and any app could quickly and inexpensively add eCommerce functions.

And for the less tech savvy? The Moltin developers took time to create HTML widgets to help smooth over the integration process of adding the eCommerce aspect into the app.

“We have components and interactions in the e-commerce space that [we have converted] into basic calls,” Adam Sturrock, CCO at Moltin, told TechCrunch.

According to TechCrunch, here’s how the fee structure works for developers: Users try the product at no cost for smaller stores, which comes with 30 free API calls. As the company grows, the company pays a fee based on how much assistance is needed and how much storage is used. The accounts start at $49/month for smaller requests and range up to $500/month for larger requests.

While every merchant wants eCommerce to be as seamless on its app as it is on its website, that’s not always the case. That’s where Moltin is attempting to act as a seamless bridge between developers and their customers.

“Moltin handles data storage and eCommerce logic in the cloud so that you can focus on creating great customer experiences,” its website boasts.
