According to a Reuters report, police are investigating 170 suspects in connection to a case that involves malware-concealed virus programs being used to steal passwords and banking data for the purposes of blackmail.

As part of the investigation, police raided 175 apartments across Germany. The raid also continued to the Netherlands, France and Canada.

The latest suspect arrested is a 22-year-old from Germany. In part of the raid, 300 computers and storage devices, as well as drugs and weapons, were collected. Another person in question was also taken in.

According to police, the cyberattacks committed stole personal data and led to computers being infected or shut down, which were only unlocked once ransom payments were handed over.
