Walmart is ringing in the spring by bringing a new social shopping event to its customers. On Tuesday (March 9), Walmart announced its second livestream shopping event, “Spring Shop-Along: Beauty Edition,” which will take place over Walmart’s TikTok channel on Thursday (March 11) at 9 p.m. EST.
The retail giant held its first such event in December with a holiday-themed shoppable variety show featuring 10 TikTok creators. The event, according to the press release, garnered over 7,000 more views than the company expected. Walmart also reported that its followers on TikTok grew by 25 percent during the event.
A variety of TikTok creators will be featured during the 60-minute beauty tutorial event, sharing their skin, hair and makeup routines and tips while using their favorite Walmart beauty products. One such creator slated for the event is Gabby Morrison, who touts over 3.5 million TikTok followers.
Viewers can shop the products live without leaving the TikTok app. Featured brands will include Maybelline, The Lip Bar, Marc Jacobs fragrances, NYX, Bliss and Kim Kimble.
Social commerce and shoppable events have taken off this past year, because while more people are happy to shop from home, they still want it to be fun. They still want to find community, shop with friends, get the benefits of in-person shopping and discover new products. The social commerce industry is expected to reach $604.5 billion by 2027, according to a recent report — a 31.4 percent increase from 2020’s $89.4 billion.
These shoppable events are just the beginning for Walmart, which noted in the press release that it is doubling down on social commerce and testing ways to engage its customers. “We will continue to bring more shopping experiences to TikTok in the coming months by partnering with creators to highlight different products via different formats,” according to the press release.
