    The move follows Apple’s rollout of a similar technology in its latest generation of iPhones. In LG’s case, the reader is located on the back of the phone, Patently Apple reported on Jan. 22.

    LG reportedly experienced production issues that pushed back the launch date of the new security measure.

    “Rather than to simply apply fingerprint recognition function, it is important to improve security and user convenience at the same time. We will give prominence to our functional differentiations in order not to suffer the disgrace of being called a mimicker to follow what the competitors do,” said an unnamed LG official, according to Patently Apple.
