MasterPass Moves Into Online Grocery

Online fresh food grocer FreshDirect is teaming up with MasterCard to help enhance the online grocery shopping experience of its customers.

Through the partnership, FreshDirect customers will now have the ability to utilize MasterCard’s digital payments platform, MasterPass, during the online and in-app payment process.

MasterPass enables issuers to deliver digital payments across channels and devices around the world and is able to do so with just a few clicks (and no lengthy numbers). The platform securely stores payment and shipping information, making it readily accessible when a consumer checks out using the “Buy with MasterPass” button and logs into their account.

MasterPass-enabled, bank-issued wallets allow customers to access MasterCard’s security and features built into its digital wallet solutions.

“FreshDirect’s promise to perfect the shop-and-deliver experience for its customers aligns with MasterCard’s commitment to ensure a seamless and secure checkout process,” Michael Cyr, group executive of U.S. market development for MasterCard, said in a press release.

“With MasterPass, consumers can go online, place their order and pay with just a click. The burden of entering delivery and billing information is eliminated, further enhancing the quality service FreshDirect provides.”

From Dec. 16, 2015, to March 31, 2016, FreshDirect customers will receive $25 off their first purchase with MasterPass, either online or via the FreshDirect app.

“Since Day 1, FreshDirect’s mission has been to make great food easy to get,” Jodi Kahn, chief consumer officer for FreshDirect, explained.

“Launching the MasterPass technology across the FreshDirect shopping experience speaks directly to that mission, enabling our customers to take advantage of payment innovation and streamline checkout.”
