Blockchain Takes It To The House With Own Congressional Caucus

On Capitol Hill, it appears that blockchain — and digital currency itself — has arrived.

American Banker reported on Monday (Sept. 26) that the Congressional Blockchain Caucus is taking shape, with the goal of examining and educating lawmakers on the payments technology and issues associated with blockchain. The caucus itself is being formed by two representatives across the aisle: Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) and Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC). American Banker quoted a release from Polis stating that the caucus “will focus on raising awareness, advancing ideas that foster growth and safeguarding consumers.”

The House earlier this month voted, through a non-binding resolution, to push for the development of cryptocurrencies and related technologies. That vote was overwhelmingly in favor of such initiatives, at 384-4.
