Wal-Mart Stores Inc. acquired Social Calendar, a Facebook application developed by Newput Corporation. Social Calendar provides Facebook users with birthday and holiday reminders via text message or e-mail notification.
A note at socialcalendar.com announced the purchase. The note also assured users that their service would “continue without any interruptions,” and that users would be notified prior to the rolling out of “any material updates or changes to your service.”
Wal-Mart, TechCrunch notes, “has been on an e-commerce tear” in the past 12 months, with Kosmix, Small Society, and OneRiot among its recent social media-based acquisitions.
