This week, swipe-reader start-up Square did something never before done by Facebook — they ran a video ad on television.
The video was spotted on Wednesday night by TechCrunch’s Leena Rao. (Apparently Rao is a bit of a foodie; she caught the ad on Cooking Channel, a sister channel to the Food Network.)
It’s now Friday morning, and the ad still hasn’t made its way to the Internet; you’d think if TechCrunch asked to air your ad it’d be incentive to get it online. As soon as we see it surface, we’ll embed it here at PYMNTS.com.
But the news about Square’s marketing push wasn’t the end of the “PYMNTS TV” story. Around midnight, a tweet from LevelUp CEO Seth Priebatsch:
@TheLevelUp is proud to showcase it’s first commercial! What do you think?

The company isn’t going quite as boldly into the video advertising arena; the video you see above is just a “web commercial” for now, LevelUp confirms. But it’s still a unique approach, and more colorful than a typical demo video.
