A toll booth on I-80/90 in the Midwestern U.S. is, for the time being, no longer accepting MasterCard debit cards.
“Due to a recent 250 [percent]+ rate increase by MasterCard on small-ticket debit card purchases…this location will temporarily stop accepting MasterCard bank debit/check or prepaid cards,” reads a sign posted online at Bankcreditnews.com.
Refusing to accept one specific type of card — particularly when many consumers carry only one plastic card in their wallets — does not seem like a sustainable business plan. But the decision to distinguish between specific types of cards is a unique one.
